Alaska and Haida Gwaii 7.7 Earthquakes End Enbridge`s Faint Pipeline Approval Hopes

Another major earthquake on BC`s northern coastline, listen up people, the main Cascadia fault is ready to slip, if that happens we are talking a major tsunami from Alaska clear down to the Oregon coast...

Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline will never be permitted, Kitimat and Alaska have had major Tsunamis in the past, they WILL happen again..

Here is what happened 2 months ago, Canada`s second largest earthquake ever, and last night another big cracking earthquake and small tsunami..

Mother Nature has just spoke at the Enbridge hearings(again)..

Joint Review Panel conducting the Enbridge hearings can`t in good conscious ever green light this project, a final deathblow to the proposed pipeline,  Stephen Harper can attempt to force this dangerous project through, political pundits and British Columbians vow to end Stephen Harper`s grip on power and remove the federal Conservative Government if Harper`s kowtowing to Big Oil continues...

WASHINGTON—A major 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook an area in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the US state of Alaska early Saturday, triggering a potentially destructive local tsunami, the US government said.
The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 0858 GMT, was located 102 kilometers (63 miles) west of Craig, Alaska at a depth of nine kilometers (5.5 miles), according to the United States Geological Survey

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
But the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a local and possibly destructive tsunami has been generated by the quake.
“Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated,” the US center said in a statement. “It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter.”

It added that “no tsunami threat exists for other coastal areas in the Pacific, although some other areas may experience small non-destructive sea-level changes lasting up to several hours.”

The earthquake reading was based on the open-ended Moment Magnitude scale used by US seismologists, which measures the area of the fault that ruptured and the total energy released.

A similar 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Canada’s Queen Charlotte Islands, located just south of the current epicenter, last October. That quake did trigger a small Pacific tsunami which eventually reached the US state of Hawaii without causing any damage.

Haida Gwaii earthquake sparks West Coast Tsumani

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Haida Gwaii at 8:07 p.m., Earthquake Canada reports.
The quake was located 139 kilometres south of Masset, according to the US Geological Survey website.
The West Coast Alaska Tsunami Warning Centre has issued a tsunami warning for coasts located near the earthquake including the northern tip of Vancouver Island.

Tsunami of 1964

It was Good Friday of 1964 that the largest earthquake of our century rocked Alaska, heaving up the ocean floor 15 meters and sending a series of seismic waves along the West Coast of Vancouver Island and down through Oregon and California. The first wave hit Port Alberni late at night as most people slept. Due to the heroism and quick thinking of many of our Valley’s citizens most people were alerted and evacuated before the onset of the much larger second wave, preventing any cassualties. To find out more about the Tsunami visit the museum to access our research files and large photograph collection. A permanent exhibit has been installed in the Hutcheson Gallery of the Port Alberni Maritime Discovery Centre - the centre is open seasonaly June to August.
“The Great Alberni Valley Tsunami” is the title of the first Museum Note, a small publication detailing the Tsunami and is full of photos and facts. This booklet is available for purchase from the Alberni Valley Museum.

Tsunami Facts:

  • The word Tsunami is Japanese. In Japanese - tsu = harbour and nami = wave.
  • The Alberni Valley was hit particularly hard because a tsunami is amplified if it is funnelled up an inlet then if it hits a single shoreline
  • Waves created by seismic activity are very long and low. Surprisingly, tsunamis can pass undetected under ships at sea.
  • The first wave to hit the Albernis caused mostly flooding. The second larger wave caused most of the damage that occurred.
  • Our Tsunami warning system was installed in 1993, it is the only one of its kind in BC, and was installed due to the high risk of another tsunami hitting Port Alberni.

A ROCK slide east of Prince Rupert has partially blocked Hwy16.

The slide, reported just before 1 pm, has reduced traffic to single lane on an alternating schedule.

The slide took place at Rainbow Pass, the height of land east of Prince Rupert just before Hwy16 winds down to run parallel to the Skeena River.

I doubt if the government wants to know such things. If they admitted the landslide was caused by the earthquake or the earthquake might have helped the landslide along it would add pressure to not have pipelines through mountainous places, like all of B.C.

Although sensible people would consider the earthquake just another reason to not have pipelines & oil tankers, etc. in B.C. we need to remember Harper isn't a sensible person & the Chinese government isn't interested in B.C.;s enviornment. It is only interested in obtaining Canada's natural resources.

Could you find another captcha system? I can hardly make out the letters & sometimes this particular system isn't always on. thank you.

Harper is missing a conscious and a soul. Nor does Harper have a heart, as we have just been seeing.

Harper does not care about BC, what-so-ever. A pipeline rupture nor a massive tanker spill, will slow Harper down. That does not prevent Communist China from getting their oil either.

How many earthquakes has Harper already ignored. How many pipeline bursts has Harper ignored?

Enbridge hasn't cleaned up their last, hundreds of pipe bursts. Enbridge is using, every dirty tactic in the book, to lie and cheat their way into BC. Enbridge has ignored the earthquakes too.

We know damned well, Harper is going to have, other oil tankers coming in to Kitimat Port, besides China's. BC is so low on Harper's Totem Pole, we get zero consideration.

To be fair, harper is very low on Bc's totem poles as well.
I don't know how deep into the ground the poles are placed, but harper would at best be at the bottom of the excavation.
I doubt very much that I could sit very long in a room where harper is frothing his memorized spiels, without leaping from my chair and ripping out what might pass for a heart in his robot body.
I have no doubt that even if harper's dog and pony joint review panel show, were to somehow go against the pretense of listening to the concerns of the peoples of BC, and actually do the right thing and reject the harper/enbridge/china disruption, harper intends to ignore it.

Grant G said...

EAF...The entire BC media downplayed the earthquake, not one media connected it with the Enbridge`s insane proposal.

As for the word verification, not much I can do..

If I remove the verification automated spam fills my comment board..

Stay tuned.
