Fish Lake Victory!....Breaking News!!!!November2/2010 The Feds have officially rejected the project!

We Won...the Prosperity mine has been cancelled....

Thanks to everyone who wrote letters, posted stories, First Nations, eco group, especially R.A.V.E.N....

A day for celebration!

The below was posted many months ago

Great news friends, Prosperity mine is dead, Fish Lake is saved........I haven`t gone over the Federal assessment in detail yet, but on a quick look it`s a damning report....

The assessment states the fish loss would be in the hundreds of thousands, the board also was harsh on the watershed damage, not only would Fish lake be poisoned but so would many other water sheds through seepage, the board found that Tesako mine had no mitigation for migrating water, in fact based on the board`s findings Tesako mine failed on all ends, the economic benefit was dwarfed by the massive water and environment loss on the long term!...

The report made it clear that aboriginal title and claims have not been settled, the report slammed the mine on the environmental damage, a huge area would be negatively affected, tourism, nature outfitters..........

This is a good day for Canada, the Prosperity mine is dead unless.........?

Unless the Federal Government over-rules the Federal Environmental agency.....If Harper did that it would make and environmental assessment a waste of time....The agency blasted this mine for a hundred reasons.....If you are bored, have a look at this LINK

I would like to thank my friends at R.A.V.E.N.

And Gary E....., Rafe Mair, and others.......There was a real mobilizing of forces that came together to stop this project, without all the hard work, emails, letters, editorials, and pure passion the mine would have won.

More to come on this great news story....

I agree that their ruling is good news, but I don't trust Harper nor his BC MPs. They and Campbell are cut from the same cloth and both Harper and Campbell have not been shy in over ruling their watchdogs.

Hopefully this time things will be different, but arrogant types such as these two seldom let logic interfere with their egos.

Let's hope that Harper and Co. do the right thing for once.

Thanks for that Grant.

The one thing this report didn't do was make recommendations to the FEDS. And of course, now Taseko is running with that. They appear to be saying that with no recommendations the government doesn't have to follow any guidelines and can do what it wants.
I am saying, along with a lot of people up here, not the least of which is the native population, that this mine will never go ahead based on their plan to destroy the environment.
That is not a threat, it's a promise.

Yeah, the federal report didn't make any recommendation - neither yay nor nay.

The mine already has environmental approval from the BC government.

Many businesses and politicians in the Williams Lake area support the project saying laid-off mill workers are eager for the hundreds of jobs in mining and construction the mine would create.

That's the HarperCon constituency.

That alone will influence the HarperCons to approve the project IMHO. The First Nations vote in BC has always gone heavily NDP and the HarperCons don't give a damn about them.

I don't trust BC Mps either.

Dick Harris the MP for Cariboo-Prince George, said his constituency will benefit if the Taseko Mines proposal is approved.

Brian Battison, vice-president of Taseko Mines: "... in the interest of British Columbia."

Bill Bennett: "We frankly would like to see this project happen. I’ll be discussing this with my federal counterparts to whatever extent they’re willing to talk to me about it."

This Bill Bennett:

With the numbers we reached in the anti HST initiative, I don't think these politicians can afford to back this project anymore. Let's not forget that it is the mine and some politicians along with the Williams Lake Tribune and not the voters that back it. As an aside to the HST Fight I heard time and time again that it wasn't just the HST it was all the bullshit, lies and ramming things through. Not the least of which was the attempt by Taseko to kill three fish bearing, traditional native lakes.

The people are wakeing up and we don't forget.

The other Federal MP in this area is Kathy McLeod and she also is targeted. So don't ever think anything is a done deal. We elected them we can fire them. Watch the next Federal Election.

Gary E.-I just hope that you are correct. It seems that there are a great number of BC voters who have refused to acknowledge that the Federal Conservative and Liberal MPs are as complicit in giving us the HST as Gordo & Co.

Paul-It just goes to show you that the person that coined the phrase that "bribery will get you nowhere" had never met the BC Liberal Party.

When all is said and done, this mine, should it get approval and into production will probably deliver only a fraction of the jobs and revenue they profess it will. Meanwhile the damages they do to the environs will be irreversible. No one can recreate that which took millions of years to make no matter how powerful they think they are.

Crankypants I think a lot of voters will get a rude awakening when, not if, the challenge comes under the constitution. The first thing that was done here was the Feds TOOK AWAY our BC rights to tax within our borders. That was a illegal act under the constitution. When the people awaken to this fact I don't think the Reformers will hold another seat in BC.
As for the Provincial liberals they are toast anyway. RECALL IN THE FALL.

Listen for Vander Zalm's announcement re: continuing the fight against the HST today. Taking place in front of BC Supreme court at 11 am. Be there or be square.

Good to know Cheryl, thanks for the heads up. I personally think they are implementing the plan to divest all public assets on their way down the river. Feds and Province both.

Also, I'm glad to see people connecting the campaign contribution dots, they are extensive!
