I found the debate and argument on the long gun registry fascinating on many levels......First off....I think it should be kept but tweaked to make it better, the money has been spent and we can`t get it back, from what I have read it only costs $4 million dollars per year to maintain, we register dogs, cats, cars, boats, why not guns, will it make the public safer, nope, the killers will still kill, but if it saves one life per year....
But what really fascinates me about the debate is the CONservatives making a big bru-ha-ha over it....Let me put this into perspective, $1 billion plus was wasted setting it up the gun registry, but now that it`s here....Yet the HST was rammed through Parliment in Ottawa without any debate, the Cons and Liberals voted in lock step to screw us, the senate shipped it off for royal assent in 10 minutes, yet the HST between Ontario and BC is a yearly $6 billion dollar tax hit to consumers, a giant battle over $4 million dollars per year yet $6 billion dollar HST consumer hit EACH YEAR gets no debate, at least slippery Jack Layton and the NDP voted for the public, and Jack Layton let his MPs have a free vote, can you see where I am going with this.....
The HST is crushing both the Ontario and BC economy yet the silence from our federal representitives is deafening!
The new BC drinking driving laws, I am pro and con on the issue, I object to Gordon Campbell giving the police the power of judge, jury and executioner, yet the road carnage must stop, the only solution is a zero tolerance, no .05 limit, no .08 criminal limit, make it zero .00 limit.....
Oh I hear the whining from the restaurant industry, they make a ton of money serving cheap plank and cocktails, they`re dependent on liquor sales to stay in business, well maybe half these restaurants need to go the way of the dinosaur, can`t people enjoy anything without getting slammed? The olympics were a perfect example, Vancouver streets littered with drunken partiers, bottles, cans dumped out by the tens of thousands every noght of the Olympics, drunks and boozers at the fireworks and the next morning there is tons of garbage and litter everywhere, booze ads on TV, radio, newsprint, oh the beautiful people in liquor ads, busty girls and rock hard physically fit males, no slurring, no staggering, no vomiting, no ugly people, just movie star pretty boys and girls having fun....
Maybe it`s time, time to rethink society, Marcy(my Ex) when she was 5 years old........
It was new years night, Marcy had 4 sisters, all young, a babysitter was watching the 5 girls, there was a knock on the door at about 11 pm, it was a police officer, he informed the babysitter that the girls parents have been killed in an accident, Marcy, over heard the conversation, she went into shock and it affected her entire life, the girls were split up and went to 2 different Grandparents to live, one set of grandparents were good, one was not, Marcy ended up with the bad family, she was beaten and abused, to this day she cries over the incident, and the driver that killed her parents......
It turned out it was a police officer off duty who was pissed drunk and slammed Marcy`s parents in a intersection, he never stopped at the red light, he plowed through and slaughtered them, because of inner police force protection, technicalities and no money to pursue the issue by the grandparents the cop got a free pass, no jail, no loss of job, no suspension, nothing.....5 orphaned girls because of a drunk driver...
.o5....What happens when people drink, the first thing to go is clear thought, can I have 1 drink, 2 drinks, 3, one for the road and next thing you know all inhibitions are gone....To hell with the restaurants who rallied to keep minimum wage at $6 dollars per hour, get a taxi, walk, designated driver, and I feel the same way with texting, cell phones, even the blue tooth, people don`t need to talk in their cars, studies show that hands free are still dangerous....
Jin Flaherty made a speech 2 days ago at the Canadian club, a partisan political, lying, distorting, pathetic speech from a Federal finance minister...
Flaherty said....A coalition government will cause 600,000 job losses, Jack Layton will reach deep in your wallet and take your money, the bloc will break up Canada, the bloc will have veto power....It was a pathetic speech, when National/Federal finance ministers make speeches they are listened to by heads of states from countries all over the world, can you imagine what other countries must be thinking, it was unprofessional and hurt Canada`s world wide reputation, for a real good read about Flaherty`s speech read Mark Kennedy`s article here
It`s a must read.......So Harpo loses his gun registry battle and vows to make it an election issue, what malarky!....There are far more pressing issues facing Canada than the gun registry, an election issue it is not.......
But that`s not the reason why Harper wants and is going to call a snap election very soon, the real reason is.....
Canada`s economy is tanking fast, GDP growth for the this quarter is zero!...Exports are falling, imports are outstripping exports, BC and Ontario1s economies are tanking, the Feds are desperate for cash, they are going to be raising UIC/EI premiums on both employers and employees and the GST will be raised very soon, that or massive cuts or more record Conservative deficits....The raising of EI premiums is a joke, Cretian and Martin raped UIC for over $50 billion dollars and put it into general revenue, Harper and Flaherty have stolen $6 billion dollars from the fund, the gall of taking our money, running down the fund only to raise premiums....As for the HST going up...
Harper was criticized by accountants for lowering the GST, it has created a structural deficit, now Harper is in a pickle, the Canadian economy is ready to fall back into recession, he needs money, he can`t get his majority, Canadians don`t trust him, so there is but one option for Stephen Harper, a snap election and another minority Government before the shit hits the fan!
If Harper calls a snap election and gets another minority Government .....Even when Canada`s economy tanks and taxes are raised the gentile non voting Canadian populace will be content, that and the fact the Iggy has not a clue and the NDP have been villified by the media forever, but be perpared there will be a Federal election very soon, Harper and Flaherty know if they wait too long the economic numbers and tax raising will not only kill their chances to form a minority Government but will kill their chances to form Government at all....And that suits this persuader just fine!

Two differnt groups of people that ignore the law.
Just as the bad speeders will not change because we have changed the speeding penilties
Drunks will not change because of the .05 law. Most people I read about in the paper that are drunk and kill someome are always way past .08. The lady that t-boned my daughter layed in the hospital bed next to my daughter (behind a curtain) and laid there saying "my friends told me not to drive" do ya think people like that will change. Road rage, speeding and drunk driving cause way to much carnage. They should all be off the road. Perhaps we should look at the places where zero tolerance is the law to see if that has brought the death rate down. Somehow I think not.
Campbell brought the .05 'law' in, again with a stroke of his pen, to further wipe out the middle class. It will not stop drinkers from driving and speed limit signs do not stop drivers (usually young and 'invincible') from speeding. What it will do is wipe out more small businesses such as pubs and restaurants who have already been hit with no smoking, even in enclosed areas and not within some stupid distance outside and now no drinking. To further his cause of wiping out the middle class he will now have their cars impounded at a huge cost and then they lose their jobs. All the people employed in the hospitality industry will follow with lay-offs and little or no EI and no jobs over $6.00/hour.
There are few effective rehabs, take months to get into and most are just cheap rent joints.
Campbell the drunk driver, speeder and trying to change places with his 'passenger', has made sure that his evil scheme will work for him....there is no transit after 1:30 AM and the cabbies who are often on doda will not pick up i.e. people going to Surrey from Vancouver because they have to dead-head back. The Thorn and the rest of the B.C. Lib drunks will continue to get 'special prosecutors' who of course will do as the big c says, not guilty.
He will still collect the huge taxes on cigarettes and booz because people will still smoke and drink, be it in a park, at home or wherever. Prohibition in any form has been proven not to work.
Anon 11:40 PM, my condolensces to you and your family on the loss of your daughter. As a school principle is there any early education offered in the soon to be private schools? I think not and I hope you will work towards making kids understand the perils of drinking in class as I'm sure you do in your off time.
Last nite on TV an ad was running, don't know if it was the corps or the government, that showed a big guy downing 8 drinks in a 2 hour period, drinking what appeared to be straight rye or scotch out of a jigger bottoms up....and still not indicating that he was impaired. Nothing on the fact that a 4' 9" woman would be drunk on 1 drink and I do not believe that the guy could drink 8 drinks and not blow over .05.
No transit, no jobs, doda cab drivers....sounds pretty risky to me.
This is just another indication of how much the Campbell/media/corporations/corrupt RCMP hate their bosses who pay them far too much money and can do nothing about it.
I never had a problem with photo radar, it only bothered people who drink and speed -in excess-. No stats from this corrupt government on how many more people have been killed since 2001, people killed because the mob has a hate-on for the NDP, their first move being to get rid of their very effective photo radar.
Is it any wonder the Campbell slime holidays in Hawaii, where drunk driving is not a felony?
Flaherty gave massive corporate tax cuts and this is the reason for the deficit. It is said to be the highest ever this year, 50billion. Same thing for BC. All these cuts to big business and corporations has caused the shortage of money, then they get to do what all CONS like to do, cut, cut, cut! Privatize, privatize, privatize.
Funny thing that the CONS run on fixing the economy while at the same time they are sabotaging it! Happens time and again, and the public always fall for it come election time.
I'm hoping that there is a federal election soon. It would be a good opportunity for the citizens of BC and Ontario to let Harper know that we are holding them just as responsible for the HST as we are our respective provincial governments.

Canada needs a thorough purging, to get rid of all the corrupt governing officials, in every corner of the country. It is very hard, to have pride of country, with all of the horrendous corruption, lies, theft, deceit, and dirty tactics. Campbell should have been thrown in prison, the minute he thieved the citizens, BC Railroad and sold it. It wasn't for sale he said. Campbell had no right, to put his dirty hands on the BCR. He also, should have kept his dirty hands, off our hydro. 90% of BC citizens, despise Campbell and Hansen, and everything they stand for. Lies, deceit, broken promises, corruption and cheating to win. Despicable.
