15 Reasons to Never Let Anyone You Love Near a McDonalds

This posting is not mine....Directly below is a link to the article(Grant G)

http://ecosalon.com/15_reasons_never_to_let_anyone_you_love_near_a_mcdonald_s/

The Golden Arches: the ultimate American icon. Super Size Me taught us that fast food culture brings obesity, heart disease, hypertension and more. How bad do you really want that Big Mac? Here are 15 reasons you’ll never let anyone you love get near those Golden Arches.
Real food is perishable. With time, it begins to decay. It’s a natural process, it just happens. Beef will rot, bread will mold. But what about a McDonald’s burger? Karen Hanrahan saved a McDonald’s burger from 1996 and, oddly enough, it looks just as “appetizing” and “fresh” as a burger you might buy today. Is this real food?
mcdonalds patty
You would have to walk 7 hours straight to burn off a Super Sized Coke, fries and Big Mac. Even indulging in fast food as an occasional treat is a recipe for weight gain…unless you’re planning to hit each treadmill in the treadmill bay afterwards.
-
Containing less fat, salt and sugar, your pet’s food may be healthier than what they serve at McDonald’s.
-
In 2007, the employees of an Orlando-area McDonald’s were caught on camera pouring milk into the milkshake machine out of a bucket labeled “Soiled Towels Only.” That particular restaurant had already been cited for 12 different sanitary violations. Though McDonald’s proudly stands by its safety standards, and not every restaurant has such notorious incidents, the setting of a fast food restaurant staffed with low-paid employees at a high turnover rate arguably encourages bending the rules. (McDonald’s isn’t alone in this, of course – Burger King is actually ranked as the dirtiest of all the fast food chains.)
-
McDonald’s supports the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. Much of the soy-based animal feed used to fatten fast-food chickens is grown in the Amazon. Are those chicken nuggets really worth acres of irreplaceable trees? (Especially considering how important carbon sinks like the rainforest are to halt global warming!) Fast food supports a completely unsustainable system of agriculture. It’s cruel to animals, unhealthy for humans, and bad for the planet.
-
Even Prince Charles, while touring a diabetes center in the United Arab Emirates, commented that banning McDonald’s is key to health and nutrition. Don’t let the salads and chicken breasts fool you. The “chicken” at McDonald’s, by the way, comes with a whole lot more than chicken.
-
As if feeding children high-fat, high-sodium, low-nutrition “food” weren’t bad enough, some Happy Meals in 2006 contained toy Hummers. It’s as if McDonald’s was encouraging a whole generation of kids not only to guzzle food, but to guzzle gas as well. Would you like a few barrels of petroleum with that?
-
The processed fat in McDonald’s food (and other fast food) promotes endothelial dysfunction for up to 5 hours after eating the meal. Endothelial tissue is what lines the inside of blood vessels.
-
For those who enjoy sex, take note: erectile dysfunction is connected to endothelial dysfunction. Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me commented that his normally healthy sexual function deteriorated in just one month when he ate only food from McDonald’s. Even his girlfriend commented on camera that “he’s having a hard time, you know, getting it up.”
-
How many cows does it take to keep the world loaded with Big Macs? I had to do a some research and a little math, but according to a brief video inside one of McDonald’s 6 meat processing plants, about 500,000 pounds of beef is processed per day, per plant. If an average beef cow weighs 1,150 pounds, that means 2609 cows a day are turned into burgers. That’s 952,285 cows per year. And that’s just in the United States. Eating a hamburger may not be worse than driving a Hummer, but it’s bad. One hamburger patty does not necessarily come from one cow. Think about that. You’re eating bits of hundreds of cows.
-
Maybe you just pop in for an inexpensive latte. Watch out for the caramel syrup (Sugar, water, fructose, natural (plant source) and artificial flavor, salt, caramel color (with sulfites), potassium sorbate (preservative), citric acid, malic acid) or the chocolate drizzle (Corn syrup, water, hydrogenated coconut oil, high fructose corn syrup, glycerin, nonfat milk, cocoa, cocoa (processed with alkali), food starch-modified, disodium phosphate, potassium sorbate (preservative), xanthan gum, artificial flavor (vanillin), salt, soy lecithin). Please don’t put that stuff into your body. Eat healthy cheap food instead – you can be well and still save cash.
-
Are you a vegetarian with a French fry craving? You better skip McDonald’s because their fries actually contain milk (and wheat) and though they’re fried in vegetable oil, the oil is flavored with beef extract. (McDonald’s famously misled customers for years.)
-
Do you want high blood pressure? Hit the drive-through. Eating a McDonald’s chicken sandwich (any of “Ëœem, take your pick) will give you about 2/3 of the recommended daily amount of sodium. And if you actually do have high blood pressure, that’s way more than you really need.
-
Finally unveiled: the secret of the Big Mac’s “secret sauce.”
Soybean oil, pickle relish [diced pickles, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, vinegar, corn syrup, salt, calcium chloride, xanthan gum, potassium sorbate (preservative), spice extractives, polysorbate 80], distilled vinegar, water, egg yolks, high fructose corn syrup, onion powder, mustard seed, salt, spices, propylene glycol alginate, sodium benzoate (preservative), mustard bran, sugar, garlic powder, vegetable protein (hydrolyzed corn, soy and wheat), caramel color, extractives of paprika, soy lecithin, turmeric (color), calcium disodium EDTA (protect flavor).
Cheap oil and cheap syrup. Many people depend upon cheap food such as the sort offered at McDonald’s. So shouldn’t we be examining regulations that subsidize corn syrup but consider fruits and vegetables – the building blocks of a healthy body and green planet – to be “speciality” crops? Shouldn’t we be promoting  urban gardening, community gardens and spreading information about low-cost farmers’ markets and CSAs? And focusing on the abundant choices of cheap food that are tasty and green?
Still not convinced? Maybe this 1970s trip through McDonaldland will give you enough nightmares to keep your loved ones away forever.

How to lose weight when you`re a Senior

Losing weight at any age is difficult, but as your body changes with age, it can become increasingly hard. However, maintaining a healthy weight is important for your overall well being at any age and especially as you get older. If you’re carrying a few extra pounds and want to lose them even with challenges such as a slowed metabolism, you can implement a sensible diet and exercise plan to help yourself get to your target weight.

Category losing weight
===Eating a Well Balanced Diet===

Eat healthy, regular meals. Eating healthy, balanced, and regular meals can help you lose any weight and burn fat. Foods that have moderate fat, complex carbohydrates, and are high in nutrients, for example, are best for your general health.

Stick to a diet of about 1,200-1,500 nutrient-rich calories a day, depending on how active you are.

You will get proper nutrition if you incorporate foods from the five food groups every day. The five food groups are: fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy.

http://www.choosemyplate.gov/food-groups

You need 1-1.5 cups of fruit per day. You can get this from eating whole fruits such as raspberries, blueberries, or strawberries, or from drinking 100% fruit juice.http://www.choosemyplate.gov/food-groups/fruits.

Make sure to vary the fruits you choose so that you get a range of nutrients and don’t process them in any way. For example, eating a cup of pure berries is much cleaner than eating berries on top of a cake.

You need 2.5-3 cups of vegetables per day. You can get this from eating whole vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, or peppers, or from drinking 100% vegetable juice. Make sure to vary the vegetables you choose so that you get a range of nutrients.
Fruits and vegetables are an excellent source of fiber, which you need more of over 60. Not only will fiber keep you regular, but it can also help you ward off heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and improve your skin. Fiber will also help you to lose weight.

You need between 5-8 ounces of grains per day, of which ½ should be whole grains. You can get grains and whole grains from foods such as brown rice, whole wheat pasta or bread, oatmeal, or cereal.<ref>http://www.choosemyplate.gov/food-groups/grains.html</ref> Grains will provide you with vital Vitamin B, which can help aid slowed digestion.

You need 5-6.5 ounces of protein per day.You can get protein from lean meats including beef, pork, or poultry; cooked beans; eggs; peanut butter; or nuts and seeds.

These will also help you to build and maintain muscle.

You need 2-3 cups, or 12 oz., of dairy per day. You can get dairy from cheese, yogurt, milk, soymilk.

These will help build and maintain strong bones as muscles, which get weaker as we age.

Avoid excessive amounts of sodium in your diet, which is prevalent in mass-processed foods. Your sense of taste decreases as you age, and you may want to salt your food. Try using alternative seasonings such as garlic or herbs to help you avoid excess sodium.

Avoid unhealthy foods. If you’re trying to lose weight, it’s a good idea to avoid unhealthy or junk foods, many of which are loaded with fat and calories. Potato chips, nachos, pizza, burgers, cake, and ice cream will not help you lose weight.

Stay away from starchy, refined carbs such as bread, crackers, pasta, rice, cereal, and baked goods. Eliminating these foods can also help you lose weight overall. These can cause spikes in your blood sugar and may exacerbate or lead to diabetes.

Look out for hidden sugar in your food choices. As your ability to taste decreases with age, it may be difficult to detect a lot of sugar in foods, which can cause you to gain weight. Make sure to read packaging and look for terms that indicate sugar such as corn syrup, sucrose, dextrose, or maltose.

Anatomy of a Jellyfish, Michael Smyth Edition

Written by Facebook Commenters

It absolutely amazes me what passes as journalism, in particular political/legislative journalism..

I`m not talking about some recent graduate from journalism school but no other than Michael Smyth..

How on earth can the Province Newspaper and Michael Smyth keep a straight face after putting their names to Smyth`s latest..

You see, this is what Robin Mathews writes about, what I and many other internet scribers write about...A Failed media, but it`s more than that, one can only come to the conclusion, that these MIchael Smyth type scribers are either getting financial benefit from the current sitting government and or their job and paycheque are at risk by corporate bosses, what other conclusion could one possibly reach?...Because, who in their right mind would print this article or admit to actually writing it!...

Michael Smyth`s latest effort is stunning, and, the word "effort"  was meant as sarcasm, what effort, Michael Smyth`s latest Province Newspaper column is lacking any effort, a piss-poor pre-Christmas mail-in useless column produced by veteran legislative columnist Michael Smyth.....

Columnist, Michael Smyth considers himself a columnist, but in fact Michael Smyth has in fact found the fountain of youth...He has gone back to his early days, a time when he wasn`t asked to research facts, Smitty has gone back to his "cub-Reporter" days...Michael Smyth merely records comments and statements from the sitting government and then prints them verbatim ....That`s it, not a second thought, whether the government statements and comments or true or false matters not..

Michael Smyth typifies BC`s legislative media community to a tee....Lazy, going through the motions, no interest in scoops, scandal, or the truth.....

British Columbia`s legislative/political media are all vying to win the Sean Leslie prize, ...That prize is lifetime employment with the current corrupt sitting government, employment for life for Sean Leslie and Spouse...To win the much coveted award...One must show the ability to deflect, diffuse and disassemble any and all BC Liberal scandals and crimes to a gullible listening public.

Hey Michael Smyth, rumor has it you leading the pack, leading the nominations, although Tom Fletcher`s people believe he`s in the running too....And I agree, Tom Fletcher is gunning hard for the next awarding..

I recommend everyone reads Michael Smyth`s latest Province Newspaper column..

The above picture atop the post poses a question...."What is a wimp?" We`ll come back to that later..

Directly below is the second best part of Michael Smyth`s lame article, that being the Title..

Smyth: Premier Clark tries to mop up her government’s mess from 2015

The best part of Michael Smyth`s column are the Facebook commenters that respond to Shitty Smitty`s latest column

Here they are..

There was evidence which was destroyed, and not accidentally, with respect to the deaths of children. All forms of correspondence within the ministry could have been retrieved and examined. To avoid fault and or negligence, the government didn't accidentally delete one or two items by accident. The entire system was run this way! This government has been running this province for years, and even have a deputy premier who is ex-rcmp, and has been there since day one, along with a number of other ex-RCMP within the ministry; so don't give us this lame excuse of having the system reviewed after all these years and now making appropriate changes (to resolve this problem!!???)
PLUS with the executive director from the previous Liberal 'regime' in Ontario is hired by Clarke and pegged for the same crap. At least they're doing a proper investigation back in Ontario. Where's our investigation?

Those are some great comments.....

There is better journalism and factual data all through those Facebook comments,....Funny though, where does Joe-Public get this information, get those facts, how is it Facebook commenters have all this information on BC Liberal corruption and Christy Clark dirt when senior, longtime, as in decades long veteran of the BC Legislature Michael Smyth has no data,..as in zero, scoopless Michael Smyth is a mere stenographer, again..!

There was one more Facebook comment under Michael Smyth`s column and it deserves honourable mention, however, you must first read Michael Smyth`s column to fully appreciate Michael Sevigny`s comment(Smyth`s column is linked directly below)

Below in italics is that comment.....Take note British Columbia....And Hey, Michael Smyth, yes, your year ending column is just that lame, ...it certainly didn`t fool Michael Sevigny...

Michael Sevigny

How charitable to help Christy explain her potshots against the NDP in the middle of the article supposedly about all the bad stuff the Liberals did. Although I'm not sure Smyth actually says the Liberals did anything bad, just that bad things happened, somehow, in the general vicinity of the Liberal party, and boy will that be a pain to clean up, hey did you know the NDP loves deficits? The BC Liberals have been in power for fifteen years! How can you let them slide on saying they'll start trying to fix things NOW?!

Now… Let Us All Savage Mike Duffy

Now… Let Us All Savage Mike Duffy

Written by Robin Mathews

A long, long road of sleaze, near criminal, and criminal attacks on Canadian democracy … and much more of ugly behaviour … marked the Stephen Harper Conservative years from 2006 to 2015.  Almost numberless were the violations of the trust that Canadians place in their national government.

A part of the aftermath of that orgy of sleaze is the attempt by what I call the neo-fascist Big Media, now, to paper over – even to praise – the behaviour of those years. The (literal) “papering over” of the Harper years is in full swing by those major newspapers that supported him in the 2015 election even despite  Conservative last-campaign-days devoted to strident racism and fear-mongering.  During the long years up to that time, sleaze was everywhere a person looked ….

Even in the last days of Conservative power, dirty tricks were the name of the game.

Elizabeth Thompson and then Michael Harris (ipolitics) remind us that before the 2015 Election was even called, the PMO and Stephen Harper re-appointed top civil servant favourites when they weren’t anywhere near normal re-appointment date.  To move them out will cost taxpayers millions of dollars if those faux-appointees don’t agree to slip away quietly.  Every fake re-appointment bears Stephen Harper’s mark.   As does the $90,000.00 Nigel Wright handed to Mike Duffy as a personal cheque.  Duffy testified in trial that Harper told him he had to pay back money even though he didn’t really owe it!

All of that is to say again that the Mike Duffy trial looks like a sham from start to finish.  For instance -Why was Duffy alone charged?  With a ridiculous 31 charges?  And an apparently fake bribery charge for headline purposes? Where are the other “bad” senators?  How is it  - THE QUESTION again – that Nigel Wright could hand Mike Duffy a bribery cheque of $90,000.00 which facilitated Duffy being charged with receiving that cheque as a bribe – but Wright is not charged with paying a bribe for writing it and handing it to Duffy?

How is it that on October 20, 2015, finding that Stephen Harper was merely an MP, Defence lawyer Donald Bayne didn’t immediately apply to have citizen Harper testify at the Mike Duffy trial?
And how did the bribery charge continue when prosecution lawyer Joseph Neuberger told the CBC ”a conviction on the bribery charge may be unlikely”. (Advocate Daily.com) And how could Defence lawyer Donald Bayne let Nigel Wright slip away without pushing him very hard on the cheque he paid Mike Duffy as a bribe – pushing until it was all over the front pages of Canadian newspapers and forced into editorials questioning the credibility of the trial?

Something stinks.

If the bribery charge against Mike Duffy was rigged by RCMP and Prosecution at the instancing of the Harper/PMO gaggle, then all in the know at the trial would want to soft-peddle the issue … hoping it would somehow go away almost unseen.

Who has accepted all the absurdity of what seems to be a staged trial?  The RCMP investigators.  RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson. The judge and the Crown Prosecutor on the case. The Defence lawyer Donald Bayne.  Mike Duffy himself…  as well as all, all, all the conventional press and media. Something stinks.

The “something” that stinks might just be said to concentrate itself in the Christie Blatchford writing on the Duffy case.  Apparently looking for an active ‘cleaning agent’ in the careful attempts to erase the record of Conservative crime from 2006 to 2015, Ms. Blatchford and her employers appear to have found what she needs.  She hasn’t merely filled columns of print, but pages of it (obviously called for by Postmedia power brokers who then spread her “dispatches” across Canada).
What better way to take attention away from the Conservative Party led by Stephen Harper which actively crippled and exploited the Canadian Senate for dirty use than by concentrating on Mike Duffy (probably among the lowest ten per cent of Conservative bad actors)?  MAKE HIM the big story of Conservative wrong-doing from 2006 to 2015.

What does this apparent across-the-board chicanery mean – with all the apparent across-the-board savaging of Mike Duffy?  It constitutes such a stupendously large set of apparent acts of cooperation to shield the Conservative wrecking action in the Senate, in the PMO, in the House of Commons, in the Conservative Party of Canada that one can scarcely believe what is there in front of us all….
Readers who say “none of what has been written in this column so far is anything but sheer nonsense” might seem very clear-headed.  Except … except there is just too much evidence of trial chicanery to say outright that it isn’t there.

Can we predict the outcome of the Mike Duffy trial?

Mr. Justice Charles Vaillancourt might send Mike Duffy to jail for several years for – as a public servant (a senator) accepting a bribe in order to  (a) do a favour to Stephen Harper and his cabinet, and (b) to seek to wipe out or disguise his own petty wrong-doing.  Then Mr. Justice Vaillancourt could pile on censure (and perhaps more jail time) for all the other violations of trust that Mike Duffy (along with many, many other senators) is alleged to have engaged in over expense account infractions … and other misdeeds.

The betting – from the information in this column – all goes the other way.
Mr. Justice Vaillancourt will decide that the acceptance of a bribe cannot be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt. (Mike Duffy will sigh in relief, and Nigel Wright will be able to come out of hiding overseas and return to Canada.)
The judge will decide that trust practice and lax expense spending rules make it impossible to attach judicial blame to what Mike Duffy did in expenditure.  (Duffy will sigh with relief, as will the Honourable Pamela Wallin and many, many other senators.)
The judge will decide that since Stephen Harper appointed Mike Duffy as senator for Prince Edward Island, Duffy’s claims for residence expenses in Ottawa are not clear enough as violations for a judge to rule  upon….

Mr. Justice Charles Vaillancourt may find a wrong-doing or two (unique to Duffy) – such as perhaps the Ottawa living expenses - that he can censure and punish with a suspended sentence, house-arrest, and time spent doing constructive community work  (the judge showing grand human generosity - in the light of Mr. Duffy’s ill-health).

And so millions and millions of taxpayers’ dollars have been spent in Harper and PMO-directed Senate chicanery, in (what became faux) RCMP investigation and reporting, in Prosecution Office time and expertise shaping a dubious case, in Nigel Wright’s improper activity, and in all the other many, many activities related to other Conservative wrong-doings carefully hidden from Canadians.  And now we can look forward to the outcome - the trial outcome (costing a huge amount) doing nothing but covering-up the truth, with Mike Duffy fronting for the innumerable crimes that will never be faced.

That is why the almost unanimous cry has gone up –  Far Right Media inspired and Conservative Party approved.  It’s a huge smokescreen that’s working wonderfully well:  “Now’s the time… Now, Now.  NOW… Let us all savage Mike Duffy!”

Christy Clark`s and Rich Coleman`s LNG boondoggle

This commodity is in an ‘epic bear market’

"Chris Verrone, technician at Strategas Research, sees an even worse scenario for nat gas, predicting it may go as low as $1.50.
The steady decline in natural gas prices has become an "epic bear market," Verrone said Monday on "Power Lunch," one that should take several years to correct. In the meantime, he said investors should watch for upside resistance at $2 and sell any short-term bounce.
"When we get declines of this magnitude, it takes many, many, many years to repair. So even if we are in the vicinity or the neighborhood of a low, we're talking about years before a major turn or a new bull market really starts to take shape," Verrone said.

http://www.cnbc.com/2015/12/14/this-commodity-is-in-an-epic-bear-market-trader.html

Did I mention that Tsawwassen First Nation just said HELL NO to an LNG terminal? Tsawwassen First Nation will prosper long into the future with clean water, fertile land and fresh seafood..LNG is slow death....!

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/metro/tsawwassen+first+nation+rejects+proposed+facility/11594929/story.html

Well Christy Clark, what is your next big lie,.....And hey, Christy Clark, where the heck is that prosperity fund....Oh, that`s right, BC`s prosperity fund went into the personal bank account of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/323496

Hello readers, contributors.....There is nothing much left to say about BC`s LNG exporting future..The industry is dead, .

Not only do Japanese LNG import volumes continue to fall....More nuclear plants are scheduled to restart...

http://www.lngworldnews.com/japan-november-lng-imports-down-yoy/

And if that wasn`t bad enough....

Japanese LNG imports fall and long-term contract prices drop below $9 mark

http://www.lngjournal.com/lng/index.php/home-mainmenu-1/item/10697-japanese-lng-imports-decline-and-long-term-contract-prices-fall-below-$9-mark

Here`s the rub for British Columbia(one of many rubs)....Now longterm LNG buying contracts are being inked for less than $9 dollars per MM BTUs...Not spot market buys but longterm contracts, low prices even before the tsunami sized glut of LNG comes online over the next two years..

Already operating LNG terminals, these LNG producers aren`t taking any chances, they are dropping their prices to the barebones of profitability, ....Those energy companies fear if they don`t ink longterm LNG buying contracts for low prices today.....

Those companies fear they will be forced to sign longterm LNG buying contracts tomorrow for even less money!...

An old saying comes to mind, and it rings true..

"One in the hand is worth two in the bush"

So, in a nutshell.....For Petronas`s Lelu Island LNG terminal proposal...It has been reported, because BC`s LNG industry is/would be a "Greenfield" start-up, with BC`s gas supplies hundreds of kilometers from the coast, nothing in place in the way of infrastructure...It has widely been reported that Petronas needs a longterm selling price of a minimum of $12 dollars to be even slightly profitable...

With now longterm contracts for LNG being inked for between $8 and $9 dollars...

That means Petronas can`t make a profit, or break-even.....The only way the Petronas Prince Rupert project goes forward now is if the Province of British Columbia makes/gives/legislates a financial guarantee of between the $12 to $14 dollar range....There is no other way any LNG greenfield LNG project in British Columbia can go forward financially, no big energy company CEO could keep their job by sanctioning money losing ventures...

I mean it really is that simple,.....

There is too much supply, little demand, too many fools rushed in,.....There may be another window of LNG opportunity by 2030...Maybe, that is, if, if the world is still believing the clean LNG bullshit/myth..

It`s going to be renewables and nuclear going forward as the big winners in energy..

So, the only thing that remains is for British Columbia`s media and NDP opposition to corner Christy Clark and Rich Coleman and demand answers, honest answers, not vague industry spin...

Site C dam....$15 billion borrowed taxpayer dollars for power we don`t need, and won`t need, not today, not tomorrow...LNG and Christy Clark, the gift that keeps on taking

Lastly..... As per usual all the dirty little whitewashed reviews and reports come flooding out at and or near Christmas, such standard deflectory fare for these BC Conservative/quasi Liberals ....Ahh, but this time is different.. the Christy Clark regime is running scared, very very scared, hence all the covering photo-ops...Massey tunnel announcement, without money details...Riverview lands, a vague proposal with no timeline,...Money offered to the tech industry, Compass card promoting...

You see, Site C dam will barely be started by the 2017 election, ..Yet more mines will be shuttered in BC because of low commodity prices, the major LNG proponents will back away one by one...

Christy Clark will need another mystery industry to appear, or be promoted as the catalyst for continuing the Site C dam boondoggle..

I wonder what Christy Carnak Nostradamis Clark will come up with..?

I`m betting Christy Cluck Cluck Clark will merely "Gobble Gobble"

Where Power Really Lies In Climate Change

Written By Robin Mathews  December 2015

As we watch … huge criminal corporations, governments, and their lemming environmentalists race to the cliff edge in Paris, refusing to grapple with the reason they are racing….  They refuse – in any meaningful way – to challenge The One Per Cent head on, which is where effective solutions to climate change begin.
While a flood of information pours out of Paris about poor nations and rich nations and island nations drowning … and the undeniable fact of Global Warming, The One Per Cent grows richer and takes more of planetary wealth as a function of misusing populations, wasting raw materials, selfishly exploiting technology, destroying the biosphere … and buying governments like picking up so many stock options.

The One Per Cent make up the people behind “Free Trade Treaties” that, in fact, remove national sovereignty, erase conditions for middle nation independence and climate viability, and lash huge populations – like galley slaves – to the profit machines of imperial nations owned by The One Per Cent and working (‘as if ‘democratic and/or “fair” societies) to funnel more and more of the world’s wealth into the pockets of a very few.

Behind all the (sometimes really intense and well-meant) negotiations and trade-offs in Paris operates the mafiosa hand of The One Per Cent.  And until it is addressed as what it is with a demand that (to use the language of Pope Francis) “the downtrodden … change the world economic order” the game of make-believe will go on.

One of the few truth-tellers, Pope Francis has spoken of “savage capitalism” and called money and modern capitalism “dung of the devil”.  He doesn’t pretend the present world order is, somehow, unrelated to the descent of huge populations into poverty and the globe moving ever-closer to climate Break Down.

In all the flood of information from Paris, The One Per Cent is never named as the Central Issue to be dealt with – for that would mean, as the Pope suggests, a reconstruction of power relations in the world.  And so, sad as it is to say, the nice, caring people in Paris (from Canada, too) are living in a land of make-believe. They refuse to ‘grasp the nettle’, to name the Elephant in the Room, to set out positions that demand the redistribution of wealth (and power).

They refuse to speak of a global reorganization of work and of production for use rather than for profit in a process that completely removes the employment of destructive climate pollutants.  By ignoring the broad papal hints, the Paris negotiators bring two inevitable things closer: (1) crisis in climate conditions and (2) the absolute certainty of major, wide-spread wars of “revolutionary” and “repressive” kinds: of social chaos amidst a crumbling and humanly destructive ecosystem.
Pope Francis is correct to speak of “savage capitalism”.  The corrective doesn’t need (or want)
a name.  Because the general road is clear.  The Ninety-Nine Per Cent can quite easily eliminate The One Per Cent in its character as a grossly wealthy force putting human existence at risk.  Liberated from The One Per Cent burden, many of its members might become useful agents in constructing a new society.  The language has to be about human survival and the absolutely necessary reconstructions of human work, human creativity, human administrative talent, the meaning of wealth, and the human power necessary to effect what is, in fact, revolutionary change in the modes of administering publicly responsible power in the world.

What They Don’t Talk About In Paris

How much, just for instance, has the horrendous, unnecessary, lunatic-driven war in the Middle East – since 1980, contributed to climate change?      Thousands of polluting aircraft, millions of polluting weapons and explosives, numberless polluting fires raging without letup, millions of polluting corpses lying in the desert sun.  The U.S.- backed Iraq invasion of Iran is said – alone – to have cost a million lives.  And then there was the U.S.-instigated demolition of Iraq… and then Libya … and now Syria…. (“Bomb them some more”, says the morally challenged British prime minister, David Cameron, while his representatives in Paris negotiate to prevent climate change.)
Do the Paris environmental experts have a way of computing the number of human murders and increases of warfare created climate pollution in direct relation to the increase in Capitalist wealth? In direct relation to the growing wealth of The One Per Cent?

Plainly, The One Per Cent –  made up of acceptable environmentalists,  co-operating governments, and Capitalists masquerading as concerned ‘leaders’ – are going to have to be confronted as never before on Climate Change. They are going to have to be moved over by the people… as a start, if anything meaningful is going to get done. They are going to have to be moved over to make room for brilliantly staged reconstructions of power and wealth by peaceful means.  If that doesn’t happen … welcome CHAOS.

There is a lesson here, ‘Writ Large’, as they say. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see it.  Canadians must really challenge the present inaction (called “action” and “new targets” and “hopeful goals” and “real assessments”).  Canadians must move “acceptable” environmental “experts” right out of the picture.  Canadians must insist governments act upon solutions that directly address, directly seize, redirect, and put to constructive environmental use the wealth of The One Per Cent – wealth that has, heretofore, been gained cruelly and often brutally through demonic instruments of human and ecological destruction operated on massive scales. That is wealth which, now, must have a completely different character and function.

If Canadians don’t face that reality, if they don’t face The One Per Cent, and act, directly, for change, then it’s all over. Then it’s Cultural Suicide without a good aspect to be found anywhere in the process.
