Christy Clark is over her Head in a Hugely Way(Major update at bottom)

I`m sure all the pundits will soon let rip on Christy`s performance with Billy Good, both pro and con, for all it`s worth here is what your friendly Powell River Persuader thought of today`s show with Cluck Cluck Clark...

To be clear, Bill Good did a fair, semi-tough interview and overall I give Bill a C- for his performance...

Christy Clark`s performance, I call it a draw, those who dislike Clark and her corrupt party heard nothing to change their minds, those that are trying to elect Christy got some good sound bites...

For me it wasn`t so much what she said but what she didn`t say and how she sounded on air...Too many voice inflections, her voice rises and falls like an oil derrick, up it goes and down it falls over and over again, Christy uses the word "Hugely" way too often, what`s wrong with the word huge, do we really need the ly added to that word??

I was very disappointed that the biggest issue facing British Columbia, Enbridge`s pipeline proposal was avoided, 1 weak question on Enbridge which Clark quickly chased away, that was the place for tough follow ups from Billy, none came, Christy Clark on Enbridge said she was waiting to hear from the NEB panel on the pros and cons of the pipeline before she would take sides,, well....There are countless environmental risks that can`t be overcome and oil disasters are a certainty, the pros are less than 200 permanent jobs and a dribble of money for the Province, roughly $13 million per year, barely enough to pay David Hahn`s pension...

That is where tough follow ups were needed, because, as we here at the Straight Goods have pointed out on many occasions...

Whether you are pro or con as to the Enbridge pipeline, if the BC Liberals are in support of the pipeline the time to argue and demand big bucks is before the project starts, if Christy Clark believes that after the NEB panel makes a decision, and if that decision is say, hypothetically, ....."It`s a go"

If Christy Clark believes at that time she can make monetary demands or requests after a decision is made,  she is "Hugely" mistaken, at that point the pipeline, royalties, benefits, risks, assurances are out of our Provincial hands and her bargaining power is zippo...

Christy sounded like a ditz, she was giggly and those damn voice inflections, it was forced, straight from a speaking coach was obvious, Christy also made dumb errors, Billy asked her about her and the BC Liberals tanking poll numbers, Christy Clark blew it off and then lied, she said, something to the effect of...

There are other polls out there showing me popular, when Bill followed up with what polls?...She waffled and went silent, caught in a lie because believe me, if there was such a poll in existence cknw would be broadcasting it, as would Global and others BC Liberal friendly media....

Dianne Watts recently has been speaking up on behalf of people and voters south of the Fraser as to the upcoming tolls on the Port Mann bridge, one caller asked about relief or different toll structure, like spreading it around so everyone pays a small toll rather than SOUTH OF THE FRASER workers getting hit for $2000 DOLLARS PER YEAR...Christy Clark said no, it is what it is and shoved it back at Translink, even though Translink has nothing to do with the Port Mann...That was a critical error by Christy, skiers and Whistler Chalet owners are more important than middle class working stiffs..

All in all it didn`t live up to the hype, Christy Clark sounded shrill and terrified of Adrian Dix...

One other item, a caller named DJ called in and started blathering lies about the 90`s in a "hugely" partisan Liberal lovefest way, Christy said..."Hi DJ" as if she knew exactly who DJ was, to Bill Good`s credit he cut off DJ and Christy Clark and moved on to another caller...Billy called it a party staged call...


The bottom line is, those who know Christy Clark and the BC Liberals are doomed had their feelings and gut instincts confirmed, those who still believe, well, no doubt they are second guessing "hugely" about Clark`s ability...

This strategy won`t change any poll numbers, Clark sounds like a total amateur on radio, obvious and forced, also she`s still stuttering, stammering and speaking as if she never went to school at all...Oh yea, she quit S-F-U-...

Updated here ....It appears Vaughn Palmer also picked up on the critical error Christy Clark made as to the tolls on the Port Mann bridge, on Clark`s deflection back to Translink, on Clark`s preference to blame others for Clark`s Government`s decision on tolling....I have written on this subject in the past, the $2000 dollars per year in tolls, but that number supposes that only 1 family member will drive over the Port Mann bridge, most young families have both parents working, a husband and wife may both drive over the bridge, one working in Burnaby another in Vancouver, add in families with teenage children who drive too...There will be many families that will be out $4000 per year, some family incomes will be guzzled to the tune of $5000 or $6000 per year..

Christy Clark understands nothing, she`s a ditz ex-radio host who is uneducated and as dumb as a sack of hammers....

Hello Vaughn Palmer, you mention in your latest column(February 14th)  that the Port Mann bridge will be open in the middle to late next year(2013), now you and big media are fibbing about the time-line, Gordon Campbell and Kevin Falcon both have made statements with photo-ops promising the new Port Mann bridge would be open by December 2012....

Now media and Vaughn Palmer have silently changed that opening date to the middle of 2013...Whether or not the NEW time-line is because there`s a crushed gantry support and work has ceased on the north side of the bridge I don`t know..

" The issue is already a contentious one in Surrey and other communities south of the river and likely to heat up with the approach of tolling day and the next provincial election, both slated for the first half of next year"..Vaughn Palmer.....(That being in the middle of 2013)

“We’re building this new, 10-lane bridge to improve travel on one of the Lower Mainland’s busiest transportation corridors, cut travel times for thousands of commuters every day, bring transit back for the first time in two decades, and reduce the congestion costs our economy $1.5 billion each year.”

Original, conservative government estimates had the bridge opening in 2013. However, after further detailed analysis of the project by contractors Peter Kiewit Sons Co. and Flatiron Constructors Canada Limited, new efficiencies have been found and a construction schedule will see the bridge complete by 2012.

So media has silently changed the completion date of the Port Mann bridge, no longer being ready in December this year, now it`s late next year, what Gordon Campbell, Shirley Bond, Kevin falcon, everyone one of those BC Liberals said the bridge was on time, on budget and a year ahead of schedule....Perhaps Vaughn Palmer you could fill in the blanks, explain where and when the BC Liberal Government informed the public about the change of the opening date of the new Port Mann bridge.

And finally, it was only the Powell river persuader who wondered how...How on earth could Gordon Campbell state the bridge was on time, on budget an a year ahead of time when construction barely started, and...How on earth could the builders of the new Port Mann bridge say...

"We found new efficiencies and techniques that will bring completion a year ahead of time"..

Enbridge is First to Blink as Pipeline Route Unravels

Developments have been coming fast and furious, Enbridge after running into a Northern front of opposition is now considering a different route to our west coast, Prince Rupert is now seriously being considered as the destination for Alberta crude oil...

Paul Stanway, Enbridge`s spokesperson continues to lie about First Nation`s support in British Columbia, apparently Enbridge considers the little dribs and drabs of money given to BC`s First Nation`s to study the impacts of the northern Gateway pipeline as signed, sealed equity agreements, First Nation`s are outraged and deny any deals have been signed...

"A second British Columbia First Nation says it has signed on to a sharing agreement with Enbridge Inc., (TSX:ENB) in exchange for its support for the controversial Northern Gateway pipeline, but just as the first deal was nullified after an internal fight, this second one, too, appears in jeopardy after the chief that signed the agreement was turfed and a new band council looks at whether they can get out of it. 

It's an indication of the delicate job Enbridge has undertaken to ensure aboriginal bands along the pipeline route are adequately consulted, and it's also an example of why aboriginal groups who might be interested in exchanging their support for some much-needed revenue from the project are reluctant to speak about it openly. 

Enbridge maintains it has the support of 20 of an estimated 43 bands located within 80 kilometres of the proposed twin pipelines and about half of those 20 are in British Columbia, including the deal the Gitxsan signed and then rejected.
But telephone calls to the band offices of those B.C. First Nations along the pipeline route turned up only one other band that has signed a deal.

Last month, the Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs of northwest B.C., voted to reject a $7 million Enbridge equity-sharing deal that lone Gitxsan Hereditary Chief Elmer Derrick signed on behalf of the chiefs.
 
Calgary-based Enbridge says it offered the 43 B.C. and Alberta First Nations located along the proposed 1,177-kilometre pipeline route from Bruderheim, Alta., to Kitimat, B.C. a 10 per cent equity stake in the project, worth about $400 million.


Enbridge spokesman Paul Stanway won't name the 20 the company says have already signed.
"The deals we have with them, talking to the media is not one of the requirements," said Stanway.

But the The Yekooche and Gitxsan are reflective of the tough slogging Enbridge faces in B.C. when it comes to convincing aboriginals to sign on to the pipeline project.
There's genuine interest among some aboriginals, but fierce local politics, the absence of signed treaties, widespread distrust of the pipeline and fear of an environmental disaster are proving enormous challenges to overcome for Enbridge, despite the company's public image that all's well.

"We believe we are having successful talks with a number of First Nations," said Stanway. "First Nations have a lot of concerns and we need to address those concerns and we've been trying in good faith to do that."

"Grand Chief Ed John of B.C.'s First Nations Summit, the largest aboriginal organization in the province, said he questions what Enbridge is calling deals with First Nations because he's not hearing much support for the pipeline. 

"They're spinning their stories," he said. "You give the community a bit of money to do some research on the impacts of the project, does that mean the community supports the project? No. Enbridge is telling communities that if we provide funds to you, you can't oppose the project." 

Stanway maintains the deals Enbridge has with the First Nations "are not expressions of interest. They are signed agreements."

Haida Gwaii Community Futures is not an ‘Aboriginal Organization’ and has no idea how they got on the list.

Representatives of the above organizations are in no way engaged with nor have they given any reason to believe they are “relationship building” with Enbridge.

We would like to have all of these names stricken from Enbridge’s filed documents as it is libellous bringing these organizations into disrepute, not only with their own constituents, but also the many First Nations, organizations and people who are committed to the health of this planet.

"Coastal First Nations executive director Art Sterritt acknowledged his organization used Enbridge money to study the pipeline project, but now is steadfastly opposed to the pipeline, saying it threatens the coastal way of life.

 Very interesting, so what does all that have to do with this story considering the title, first off, this is a brutal deal for BC, there are no jobs and zippo money for BC and a disaster is inevitable, an oil tanker spill of size will extinct countless salmon runs, kill millions of birds and extinct our remaining orca , I also wrote that Kitimat was chosen because it was the cheapest land route available for Enbridge, the natural choice was Prince Rupert, a deep port and no inside waters, well guess what, Enbridge knows now that they can`t beat British Columbia people and First Nation`s before Stephen Treason Harper is removed from office so Enbridge is now seriously considering different routes to BC`s coast..

Pat Daniel also told Reuters that while he was prepared to look at alternate routes for the Northern Gateway pipeline -- which is crucial to Canadian plans to export oil to China -- he felt the current routing plan was the best........


Daniel said Enbridge was prepared to look again at the routing and cited an earlier plan to run the pipeline to Prince Rupert on the Pacific Coast, which the firm abandoned because it would run parallel to a major river.
“We will relook at (Prince) Rupert, we will do whatever we can to find the best solution for Canada, but our information and our engineering studies and environmental studies suggest that Kitimat is the best location,” he said.

So there you have it, Enbridge will not sweeten the pot for First Nations, there is no money in it, these alleged equity deals amount to $21 dollars per year per each First Nation member, barely enough for a decent steak, Enbridge has stated so many deliberate lies trying to spin support for their dirty tar pipeline, now they have blinked and are considering a new route, well, with the entire town of Prince Rupert 98% opposed to the pipeline going to Kitimat I don`t believe they will find any support there either...

First things first, there needs to be extensive studies done by real scientists and experts on EROI for the tar sands, ...If, which I doubt there are any net energy gains as to EROI for the tar sands the only route going west must use Kinder Morgan`s existing right away through to Vancouver and find away to pipe this dirty tar to Cherry point....Tankers presently go there, personally I`m against the whole Tar sands thing because of the heavy environmental footprint and net energy loss with EROI, but if the oil must move from east to west than the only route to consider is Kinder Morgan`s right-away then on to Cherry point...

Leave our Northern rivers, watersheds and coastline alone, start over and make a deal with Kinder Morgan, or die trying in the courts, Harper and his reformers are but a one term Government, their fate is sealed already, healthcare, pensions and rights have been traded for war jets, prisons and Harper`s version of scorched earth, damn the scientists Conservative reformer`s religion .

At times it feels like British Columbia has entered a time machine and traveled back in time,  it seems like only yesterday when Gordon Campbell was a regular guest at Vancouver`s board of trade while Christy Clark stuttered and stammered incoherently on CKNW radio.....Well blow my socks off...

Tomorrow(Friday 10th of February) Gordon Campbell after being thrown out of office with a thud returns to be a keynote speaker at the same board of trade who honoured and bowed to our now bare naked deposed emperor, who are these freaks who pay to hear an habitual liar and criminal speak, are they sexual bondage players who enjoy being gagged beaten and hung from ceiling chains or are they dirty diaper wearing babies who need and crave to suckle sour milk from the tit of corporate Government pork barrel breasts, sado masochistic disorders come to mind...

And on Monday(February 13) a one Christy Clucking Clark returns to the studio where she made radio history, a place where she could lie and fake her persona into something it wasn`t, rather than make a throne speech Christy Clark and her Gal Pal Billy Good have concocted an elaborate stage play, Billy will pretend to ask questions while Christy will pretend to answer them, I can hardly wait....

I`m almost reminiscent of the past, where else could one hear a former Minister of Education tell all the listeners of her favorite television show, that being Spike TV`s low budget grosser show...MANSWERS....A show where they taught you how to bottle today`s farts and save them for later or what size breasts are required to crush a beer can, apparently Christy Clark has honed her skills with both since then, especially the bottled farts, for that aura surrounding Queen Christy is a little more than pungent, it`s downright ripe....Oh my, to reminisce into the recent past has brought me a rare smile...

Yes indeed, I did look forward to the Christy Clark show, everyday we learned more and more about Christy, like her favorite TV show was MANSWERS and her favorite pastime was trophy bear hunting, and one of my all-time favorite Christy Clark episodes, Christy Clark called everyone who signed the petition against Gordon Campbell`s and Stephen Harper`s HST consumer tax..."Taliban"

Our own homegrown uneducated Sarah Palin of BC, five days per week where Christy performed a three stooge stage play featuring only her, now that`s talent, when Christy spoke one never knew what would come out of her mouth, except spittle when she encountered callers or guests with functioning brain cells..

It was indeed a pleasant time for me, my best friend and Father was still alive and my abode was still standing and home to three beautiful cats that were like children to me....Oh to reminisce.

Back then bitter Brian was a regular caller on CKNW, he had a particular knack of getting under Christy Clark`s skin, for only Brian, as far as I know made Christy Clark retract on air for lying, and what was that lie, Christy Clark was defending David Hahn`s record at BC ferries, his salary, BC Ferry`s performance, Christy Clark made the outlandish claim on air that under David Hahn BC Ferries was making $500 million dollars per year in profits...Outrageous...Bitter Brian called in to set the record Straight and the battle ensued, Christy Clark talked over Brian, she deflected and denied, she panned Brian and that was a critical error, for immediately after that call Brian emailed Christy Clark, emailed and phoned the station demanding a retraction, Brian sent in links, stories and BC Ferries annual financial statements proving there was no profit just debt...Christy Clark laughed and blew Brian off, so did station manager Tom Plasteras, that too was a mistake, for Brian`s next chat was with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council where the complaint was filed and won, Christy Clark was forced to retract on air....VICTORY over that uneducated Bitch....

Time to travel back in time and listen to Christy Clark on that Fateful day...

Clark  "How much of a difference has his leadership made at BC Ferries? It`s a company that now delivers a half a billion dollars in profit back to you and I !{sic} the taxpayers  and don`t forget, we didn`t start making this  profit until after David Hahn took over and started cleaning it up.

  So how much is that worth to you? And to me, the people who pay taxes in this Province? Yes, we could cut David Hahn`s pay. We could save the corporation maybe a hundred, two hundred, maybe three hundred grand a year.  And then when he leaves and is replaced by somebody who`s willing to work for less, how much profit will there be left for the taxpayer to garner? 

Would we be earning four hundred million instead of five? Three hundred million insted of five? Maybe we`d be earning the same amount. The fact is no one knows. But are you willing to take that risk? Are you willing to risk hundreds of millions in profits to save perhaps a couple of hundred thousand dollars in salary? 

The fact is that leadership really does matter. And in the case of BCFerries, it`s pretty easy to argue David Hahn`s leadership in particular has made a very, very big difference. Is he overpaid? I don`t know. I `m not really sure what the job is worth

. But I do know that five hundred million dollars in profit back to you and I {sic} the taxpayer, is a pretty good deal.

Brian..Hi Christy, you know, I don`t know where you get your facts from, but you know BC Ferries has a $1.4 billion dollar capital debt. In the last fiscal reported quarter, April, May and june of this year, they didn`t even make enough money to cover their operating expenses and interest payments, which is fifty million dollar per year on their capital debt. Plus the Province subsidizes BC Ferries to the tune of almost two hundred million dollars a year. Where do you get this $500 million dollar profit amount from?


Clark--They, they return that to the taxpayer. It is on, you can find it in public accounts.

Brian--Yea, well, I suggest that you do a little more scanning and talk to Gary Coons, uh the, ferry critic....Because BC Ferries is in, is right now, is in a financial disaster.uh!

Clark-but they don`t have a fi, they don`t have a capital debt, though. Brian, because

Brian--Yes they do!..$1.4 billion dollars!

Clark-No, hold on, hold on, listen, listen, listen! listen. They don`t have a capital debt. though, because of David Hahn. They have a capital debt largely because we spent so much money on the fast ferries that there was no money left over to actually look after the ferries that were going to work in british Columbia. They had to build new ferries.

Brian--No, your wrong on that. Christy, because when Hahn took over, all the debt that BC Ferries had was retired by the Province. Hahn came in there was a clean slate. And this $1.4 billion dollar debt has been gathered up since Hahn has been at the-

Clark-But he, but, Brian, my point is he came in with BC Ferries that were, a fleet that was, in such a bad state of dis-repair, I mean, some of the ferries were, I think, thirty or forty years old

Clark-and there was no money to do it because it had been misspent in previous years. That money for the fast ferries should have gone into upgrading the fleet over those years.

Chasing an Oily Black Ghost/Alberta Ponzi Scheme

There are some incredibly talented individuals working on fascinating research in the area of ENERGY RETURN ON INVESTMENT....EROI.

 

 I read some articles put together by Andrew Nikiforuk,...Andrew`s dedication to exposing the Alberta tar sands for what they are impresses me much, infact Andrew Nikiforuk has impressed many, at least those willing to comprehend without letting the left right divide get in the way, for too many times arguments ensue between differing factions, then out comes the usual refrains of  calling those opposed ...leftards, socialists, latte drinking Liberals...We get ridiculed and called welfare collecting tree hugging hypocrites, proponents of tar sand developments then use guilt as their back up argument, they claim because we have computers, a jacket on our back and maybe even drive a car that we can`t possibly criticize because we too are oil using consumers, it`s about at that point where debates turn into rhetoric

 

As you are probably aware we here at The Straight Goods have tried to leave the rhetoric behind, we first argued that the risk of pipeline spills and tankers disasters to 1000`s of fish bearing rivers and our northern coastline was too great, far too small reward to risk species and habitat we couldn`t replace, we highlighted treacherous waters, we pointed out modern ship disasters from submarines grounding, cruise liners hitting rocks, from oil rigs sinking to explosion of tankers, all within the last few months alone.

 

It wouldn`t matter how many examples of shipping accidents I and others put forward, how many experts warned of shipping risks Enbridge and Alberta would shake their head and say it`s safe, know we know what it`s like arguing with cement blocks, no argument will deter their lust and unabated greed, we didn`t stop there, we used Enbridge`s own record and public records of pipeline spills, Enbridge`s record is as brutal as they come, 1000`s of spills in the last few years alone, watersheds destroyed, millions of dead fish, dead birds, noxious fumes and sickened people, livelihoods destroyed, we have also shown numerous videos of Enbridge denying any responsibility for their poisonous spills, videos of Enbridge intimidating the public, hiding spilled oil under sand, under canvas with special grass grown over top, deliberate illusions learned from 1000`s of spills, Enbridge can`t clean their messes only hide them, and they`ve been caught and reported, big oil lawyers with influence smooth the getaway with illusionary fines and wrist slaps.

 

 I wanted to keep the argument from turning into name calling and rhetoric, 

"just the facts maam"

 

I`ve been digging, digging for factual articles designed to inform, never once have we talked about electric cars or communal living, no stories of wind power and cave living, "just the facts maam"...And I have to admit long hours have led me to being dead tired, we have put links to videos and stories, articles and facts posted from coast to coast, east to west plus north to south, spreading the message of stark facts and critical data to as many people as possible, but you know what, everywhere I went, every comment thread, every article online,  time and time again the only argument put up by proponents of Enbridge`s northern pipeline was the rhetoric, the name calling, the pattern was the same in Prince George as it was in Ontario, Alberta, every comment thread and every pro-pipeline article, every economist pimping the pipeline used rhetoric, spin and lastly name calling in their defense.

 

I`m willing to debate facts with anyone,....Time for a short run down on rhetorical spin, Joe Oliver and Harper with assists from Ezra Levant and Vivian Krauss attempted to hijack the pipeline debate before it even started, they argued big American green groups were funding Canadian radicals, tree huggers and eco-terrorists, from the very top of the food chain came pathetic rhetoric about foreign money spending several $million delaying due process when all parties knew damn well that $billions have been spent by corrupt foreign entities, by big oil, by corrupt Chinese regime corporations.....Propaganda from the prime minister of Canada, from Joe Oliver and one by one the stooges repeated it, Craig Oliver, Bill good, Vancouver sun, Globe and Mail, all these so-called professional media ran with it.

 

That argument failed and actually backfired, the rhetoric continued, from Bill Good..."you drive a car don`t you.......Many pension plans have Enbridge shares.......We are going to need oil....Everyone has oil-based products"

 and Billy Good`s latest common refrain..

 " We can put a man on the moon and replace hearts certainly we can build a pipeline that doesn`t leak"

 

That last one about pipelines intrigued me, time and time again I heard defenders of Enbridge`s pipeline say that the 1000`s of pipeline leaks Enbridge has had were in old pipes, the Northern Gateway will be brand new pipes......Ok I say, than how come Enbridge hasn`t replaced those old pipelines, why is it they`re never replaced until they burst open, clearly if old pipelines are a problem how come they`re still in the ground.....This is nothing but more propaganda, brand new pipes leak too, my point was, what a lame excuse, blaming not replacing old pipes as an excuse for a spill, I think that`s reason enough for criminal court proceedings leading to criminal charges against Enbridge.

 

Every argument put forth by proponents of big oil has been refuted, it`s not about energy security because Canada still imports 780,000 barrels per day from Saudi Arabia, a so-called "unethical" supplier of oil, so not only is Ezra Levant`s book (Ethical Oil) a scam so is his theory, if Enbridge`s Northern Gateway pipeline went through, and Trans Canada`s Keystone pipeline went through Canada would still be reliant on importing nearly 1 million barrels per day from the middle east, meaning Harper`s energy plan is dangerous, leaving us subject to the vagaries of middle east oil and politics, it also means that if Canada was to be self sufficient in oil the tar sands would have to ramp up to producing nearly 3 million barrels per day more than they presently do...That target is more than a decade away.....Harper`s energy plan, more like Harper`s Follies!.....

So here we have this whole proposal stripped down to nuts and bolts, there will be  tanker spills, there will be many inland pipeline spills, Enbridge admits as much, there will be less than 200 full-time jobs produced in BC over this pipeline and monetary payments to the BC government amount to less than $20 million dollars per year($13.3 million to be precise), all while risking a permanent commercial fishery worth $billions, a pristine coastline at risk, watersheds at risk and BC`s largest industry tourism being risked and damaged even without a spill...

This project doesn`t give Canada energy security in-fact it makes Canada even more reliant on imported oil from the middle east, so why are we doing it, proponents only have rhetoric and name calling remaining, leftards, Socialists, tree huggers, NIMBYS and of course the money argument, again even that`s unproven rhetoric....Joe Oliver uses the number $trillions, as in 3 $trillion over 30 years, yet documents say Canada`s GDP might rise by $200 billion over those 30 years, where is the other $2.8 trillion dollars going?

Canada`s current yearly GDP is over $1 trillion dollars, closer to $1.3 trillion dollars per year now, so at best this project adds about..   0.7% to our yearly GDP.....Think of that number, that number means almost nothing to Canada as a whole, it will mean less than nothing to British Columbia once we start cleaning oil spills and filing law suits.....

And now we get down to the even finer nuts and bolts of this story....In researching  ENERGY RETURN ON INVESTMENT (EROI).

 

The first thing I realized is, this concept EROI has only been around for about a decade, it still hasn`t infiltrated big media, meaning they haven`t reported on it, however, in earlier articles I referred to the Alberta Tar Sands as an energy ponzi scheme, a waste pit for economic fraud, pump and dump stock promoters selling a fantasy of endless energy, the more I think about it the more it looks like a classic pyramid scheme...For those who don`t know how they work, let me give a quick pyramid explanation, I had a friend some years ago that got taken for $2000 dollars.

 

A pyramid scheme works early on, for $2000 dollars in you get $16,000 thousand dollars out, so the first person in gets paid $16,000 once he brings in 8 other people all with $2000, for the next 8 persons to get paid they must each bring in 8 persons with $2000 dollars,...And the pyramid builds and builds until eventually it collapses under its own weight as you run out of people with money.

Alberta tar sands energy pyramid scheme is very similar, for Tar Sand oil the early EROI numbers are in and news is bleak for both oil companies and desperate oil whore named Stephen Harper, ....That is indeed what`s caused panic in Alberta and Stephen Harper, the gig is almost up...

1 barrel of energy in and 2.6 barrels of energy out, a very very low return, virtually unsustainable but the more I read the more I learned.... There are experts out there that are now claiming that once you add up the environmental costs of poisoned water, tailing ponds and huge emissions that ENERGY RETURN ON INVESTMENT EROI with Alberta Tar sands is actually less than 1 barrel of oil, meaning it`s a net energy loser.....Full Stop...Are you kidding me!

 

So before any NEB panel is allowed to make a decision with Enbridge`s northern pipeline there must be pier reviewed scientific studies done researching EROI in depth ...I`m not talking about a panel of industry experts or Government appointees or oil funded research I`m talking about a major study being done by non-partisan scientists, researchers and experts on the Alberta Tar sands, for if it`s true EROI is the only thing that matters, we are probably polluting water, making toxic ponds and burning enormous quantities of natural gas to produce less energy that we put in...."Harper`s Follies" comes to mind again..

  From what I have read there is a strong case being made that tar sand oil with present extraction techniques is a net negative return on energy investment and only fools or those drawn into an Alberta based energy ponzi scheme would consider going forward, and or the return on energy investment is so low that unless it`s refined local and used local it`s energy negative.

And if British Columbia is to be abused by Alberta and pushed in a corner by the Federal Conservative Harper Government we are owed the right to have extensive studies done on EROI ....Let pure science, let all the costs be included, all the energy use, total it all up and if a non-partisan group of scientists and experts reach consensus that Alberta`s tar sand ENERGY RETURN ON INVESTMENT is low, like really low in the range of 1 barrel of energy in to get 1.2 barrels of energy out than let`s scrap the tar sands all together, we need facts, data and truth not rhetoric from an Alberta based prime minister.

I suspect the answer will be alarming....I believe that Alberta`s tar sands are a net energy loser unless refined and used locally and even that may be a stretch.

 

Read the below article carefully and you will see how bad this really is, they finish off with..You would get more energy from animal manure and city garbage as a EROI than you would tar sands..

Energy Return on Investment, or EROI, underpins any analysis of the value of an energy source. Just as with any financial investment, if an investment of energy doesn't produce a "profit" of additional energy, the wisdom of the initial outlay can be called into question and the market incentive to continue investing resources is lost.
In simple terms, EROI is a commonly-used calculation of how much energy is needed to locate, extract, and refine an output of energy – in this case, oil from shale. In more technical terms, EROI is the ratio of the energy delivered by a process to the energy used directly and indirectly for that process. An EROI of 1:1 means no energy energy is gained from producing the energy resource.
WRA released a report written by Dr. Cutler Cleveland, a Professor of Geography and Environment at Boston University, evaluating the studies conducted to date on the energy value of oil shale.  What Cleveland’s analysis shows is that oil shale is, at best, a marginal energy source. 

How does the EROI of oil shale compare to conventional oil?

We cannot yet say with certainty that the EROI for oil shale is unequivocally greater than 1.

The oil shale resources in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming are being promoted as a fuel source of the future. What the EROI for oil shale shows is that should oil shale ever be commercially developed, it would be a poor energy source.

This nation must clearly understand the trade-offs it will be making if oil shale becomes a significant transportation fuel source. 

In exchange for a fuel that may not produce more energy that it consumes, the costs of consumed water, impaired water and air quality, negative climate impacts, and destruction of public lands must also be considered. 
Before expending public or private dollars to support any future commercial development projects, we must evaluate, among other considerations, the EROI for oil shale.  The picture it paints raises serious concerns.

When compared to other things that can be burned as fuel, oil shale ranks very low on the list for energy content by weight, contributing to its low energy return.

Kevin Oleary was applauding the move by Caterpillar to close down their London Ontario plant, one of only 2 plants in the world that made Diesel/electric locomotives, Caterpillar made $billions last year, record profits, Caterpillar also has $billions in equipment that works in the tar sands and despite that Caterpillar gave 500 employees a poison pill offering of keep working if you take a 50% wage cut to basic and benefits knowing full well that they had already agreed to move to Muncie Indiana where workers will be paid not the $32 per hour range that Windsor`s employees made but wages in the $12 to $18 dollar per hour range..

"London , ONT. — Locomotive maker Electro-Motive began the new year by locking out CAW members at its plant in London, Ont.
Contract talks collapsed last week after the company issued a final offer that would cut the wages of union members in half, eliminate pensions and gut other benefits.
The previous contract for the more than 420 CAW members expired at the start of 2012, and the union set up picket lines at the plant Sunday evening.
Electro-Motive is owned by heavy equipment giant Caterpillar through its Progress Rail subsidiary. Caterpillar has a long history of playing hard ball with unions.
CAW president Ken Lewenza issued a statement blaming corporate greed for the lockout, calling it a serious attack on working people, their families and the greater London area.
“Caterpillar may be one of the richest corporations to ask for the deepest of cuts,” he said.
Progress Rail, which also produces diesel-electric locomotives, opened a plant in Muncie, Ind., in October, leading to speculation it intends to relocate the London operation there to benefit from Washington's Buy American policies.

well, everyone knows the Muncie Indiana deal with Caterpillar was done and there was no real offer to Caterpillar workers, it was a scam, Oleary is smart enough to know that..

The below story is courtesy of Robyn Allan, an economist who will be submitting her report tn the Enbridge hearing` later this year, Robyn is opposed to this project on many levels, particularly on the huge environmental risks BC takes, but Robyn Allan didn`t approach her report on that basis, she has conducted fascinating research that shows many things, number 1 being...The permanent job numbers for BC are under 200 employees while risking 10,000`s of jobs...And the most disturbing finding in Robyn Allan`s report is....Enbridge northern pipeline will increase the cost to Canadian/North American consumers year after year, she calls it "Canadian Oil Shock"....Gasoline prices will rise, materials purchased will rise, transportation costs will rise and with Canadian households drowning in debt consumers will make choices, meaning Enbridge`s numbers, the Harper Government numbers are bogus, Stephen Harper is looking only at finite big oil numbers without counting all the job losses brought on by consumer pull-back, in other words Big Oil will reap $billions in new dollars, Canadian consumers will be out these $billions of dollars resulting in domestic spending falling and hurting all other industries, there will be layoffs galore, less consumer money/spending means job losses, one merely look at the results of Gordon Campbell and Stephen Harper`s HST on the economy, British Columbia and Ontario, the 2 basket-cases of Canada, prices rose, consumers pulled back and job losses numbered in the 10`s of 1000`s....Remember what happened when big oil spiked to $150 per barrel?..I do, imagine those European gas prices, are you ready for $2.00 to $3.00 dollar per litre fuel...Enbridge is, so is Stephen Harper, in fact Harper is counting on it...

And for those not paying attention, it was the research done here at The Straight Goods that made the connection that the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline would costs BCer`s $700 million per year and cost Canadians $7.5 billion dollars per year, it appears that my numbers were on the low-side....

"CALGARY — A new report says the Northern Gateway pipeline will boost crude oil prices $2 to $3 per barrel annually over the next 30 years, causing significant damage to consumers, businesses and the Canadian economy.
The economic assessment of the $5.5-billion project by former Insurance Corporation of British Columbia CEO Robyn Allan says the price shock will have "a negative and prolonged impact on the Canadian economy by reducing output, employment labour income and government revenues."
Allan, an economist who researched the impact of the pipeline proposal out of curiosity, says it has been touted by proponents as a nation-building enterprise, but it really represents a "serious economic risk" to the Canadian economy.
"The emperor has no clothes," Allan said in an interview. "We're told it is a gross producing economic opportunity, but in fact it's an oil price shock to the economy."
Allan said when the price of oil goes up, that means Canadian consumers and businesses will pay more for anything produced by that oil. That will result in inflation, business being down-sized and employees being laid off,"......


"Allan said Enbridge has exaggerated the benefits of the pipeline and downplayed the economic impact of price shock on Canadian refineries and businesses and consumers.
"They used the wrong model to answer the question of what will happen to the economy when Northern Gateway is successful in raising oil prices," she said.
Allan, named as by the Financial Post as one of Canada's top 200 CEOs, said she wanted to present her information to the hearing panel and question Enbridge on its model, but was denied intervener status.
The 145,000-member Alberta Federation of Labour included her report in its submission to the panel this week.
AFL president Gil McGowan called the report "a game-changer" and a wake-up call to those who have been seduced by the public relations campaigns of the oil companies.
He said Allan's report suggests the promises of economic growth and job creation "are nothing more than a mirage."
"Once Albertans and Canadian read Robyn's report and realize they are being sold a bill of goods by proponents of the pipeline, I think they will first get angry and then second, start asking some serious questions," he said. "What Robyn's report shows is that if this pipeline is built, the public interest will be undermined — not enhanced— in terms of broad economic growth and job creation......"

Hurricane force winds again, every month there are hurricane force winds on our northern coast, with 1 to 2 oil tankers per day, they will pile up, big ships 4 times the length of a football field, these vessels under pressure would indeed travel in this weather, they would also wreck on our coast and destroy it for centuries, not if a spill happens but when, Enbridge can`t guarantee anything, their own records prove out that fact!!!!!!....The fact that Enbridge has had 804 major pipeline spills in the last 10 years, they average nearly 100 major pipeline ruptures per year..FACT, FACT, FACT.....

Spills and violations

Using data from Enbridge's own reports, the Polaris Institute calculated that 804 spills occurred on Enbridge pipelines between 1999 and 2010. These spills released approximately 168,645 barrels (26,812.4 m³) of hydrocarbons into the environment.^[8]
On July 4, 2002 an Enbridge pipeline ruptured in a marsh near the town of Cohasset, Minnesota in Itasca County, spilling 6,000 barrels (950 m³) of crude oil. In an attempt to keep the oil from contaminating the Mississippi River, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources set a controlled burn that lasted for 1 day and created a smoke plume about 1-mile (1.6 km) high and 5 miles (8.0 km) long.^[9]
In 2006, there were 67 reportable spills totaling 5,663 barrels (900.3 m³) on Enbridge's energy and transportation and distribution system; in 2007, there were 65 reportable spills totaling 13,777 barrels (2,190.4 m³) ^[10]
On March 18, 2006, approximately 613 barrels (97.5 m³) of crude oil were released when a pump failed at Enbridge's Willmar terminal in Saskatchewan.^[11] According to Enbridge, roughly half the oil was recovered, the remainder contributing to 'off-site' impacts.
On January 1, 2007 an Enbridge pipeline that runs from Superior, Wisconsin to near Whitewater, Wisconsin cracked open and spilled ~50,000 US gallons (190 m³) of crude oil onto farmland and into a drainage ditch.^[12] The same pipeline was struck by construction crews on February 2, 2007, in Rusk County, Wisconsin, spilling ~126,000 US gallons (480 m³) of crude. Some of the oil filled a hole more than 20 feet (6.1 m) deep and was reported to have contaminated the local water table.^[13]
In April 2007, roughly 6,227 barrels (990.0 m³) of crude oil spilled into a field downstream of an Enbridge pumping station near Glenavon, Saskatchewan. Long-term site remediation is being attempted to bring the site to "as close as possible to its original condition".^[11]
In 2009, Enbridge Energy Partners, a US affiliate of Enbridge Inc., agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle a lawsuit brought against the company by the state of Wisconsin for 545 environmental violations.^[14][15] The violations were incurred while building portions of the company's Southern Access pipeline, a ~$2.1 billion project to transport crude from the oil sands region in Alberta to Chicago. In a news release from Wisconsin's Department of Justice, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said "...the incidents of violation were numerous and widespread, and resulted in impacts to the streams and wetlands throughout the various watersheds."
In January 2009 an Enbridge pipeline leaked about 4,000 barrels (640 m³) of oil southeast of Fort McMurray at the company's Cheecham Terminal tank farm. It was reported in the Edmonton Journal³), sprayed into the air and coated nearby snow and trees.^[16] that most of the spilled oil was contained within berms, but that about 1% of the oil, about 40 barrels (6.4 m
April 2010 an Enbridge pipeline ruptured spilling more than 1500 litres of oil in Virden, Manitoba, which leaked into the Boghill Creek which eventually connects to the Assiniboine River.^[17]
July 2010, a leaking pipeline spilled an estimated 843,444 US gallons (3,192.78 m³) of crude oil into Talmadge Creek leading to the Kalamazoo River in southwest Michigan on Monday, July 26.^[18][19]
On September 9, 2010, a rupture on Enbridge's Line 6A pipeline near Romeoville, Illinois released an estimate 6,100 barrels (970 m³) of oil into the surrounding area.<sup>[

Well guess what, a shocking revelation has come to light,a couple of weeks ago a report from the University of Alberta was released, a report that made a very honest representation of the financial numbers, the University of Alberta report stated,...That the Alberta oil producers would be the big winner with an Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline, to the tune of $billions per pear, the report also stated that the Province of British Columbia would receive the least benefit ($131 million dollars in royalties over the life of the project)...Ontario would receive roughly $400 million dollars while Alberta would receive almost all the money, $10`s of billions per year....British Columbia would take ALL of the risk, the pipeline would have to cross 1200 rivers and streams in BC land, plus the inevitable oil tanker wreck on the BC Hurricane force wind-filled northern coast, BC would take all that risk for for $14 million dollars per year, the BP gulf of Mexico spill has cost over $40 billion to partially clean up..




Now perhaps you might be wondering what the "latest shocking revelation" is.....Here`s the deal, Alberta Tar Sand whores want the Northern Enbridge pipeline for one main reason.....That reason is....To get a higher price for their oil!!....That higher price is the Brent Crude price, Brent Crude averages 10% to 15% more the WTI North American price.....Here are the quotes from different sources.

EDMONTON — Oil producers could lose $72 billion over a nine-year-period if a pipeline to carry Alberta bitumen to the West Coast isn’t built, a new report for the Alberta government says as community hearings for the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway project are about to begin this month in British Columbia.


In a 44-page report submitted before Christmas to the federal government panel reviewing the pipeline project, consultants for Alberta Energy peg potential losses for oil producers in the project at $8 billion every year between 2017 and 2025.


The forecast, drawn up by Houston-based consultant Harold York for the firm Wood Mackenzie, is largely based on the expectation that Alberta oil sells at a higher price on an international market than it does in North America.

“If we can get it offshore, there are a lot more markets available to us which are willing to pay a higher price,” Alberta Energy spokesman Tim Markle said.

Enbridge`s "Stanway added that the proposal has a strong economic case to make, starting with an estimated $2.4-billion-per-year increase in revenue to Canada's oil industry through higher prices producers would be able to generate from selling into wider markets.




"The real driving force behind Northern Gateway is the strategic argument for Canada having access to world markets for its most valuable export product," Stanway said.

So there you have it, we have an Alberta University submitting a report that shows BC receiving a mere $131 million dollars over the life of the project, couple that with increased prices at the pump, we have seen this picture before, the HST, a yearly $2 billion dollar tax shift from corporations on to consumers back, a huge benefit to big corporations, $2 billion dollars out of BC consumers pockets directly into corporate profits, we were promised lower prices and jobs, but what we got was higher prices and thousands of lost jobs, the exact same scenario will happen with the Enbridge northern pipeline, as soon as they start selling Alberta crude on the international market they will be charging the brent crude price, our fuels prices will rise by 10% to  20% almost immediately.....Remember when oil surged to $150 dollars per barrel in 2009, our pump price was $1.50 plus per litre, no breaks for Canadians, we were subject to full pricing, pricing higher than what the Americans paid...

The Northern Enbridge pipeline will see BC drivers paying an additional $600 million dollars plus per year, Canadians as a whole will pay roughly $7 billion dollars more per year....

Think about it, which route would more and more Tar sand oil travel, south for a $100 dollars a barrel or west for $115 dollars a barrel?...Exactly, which oil company would settle for the lower price? Eventually all the Tar Sand bitumen will rise to the Brent crude price....How does $1.70 to $2.00 a litre sound?

Here, let me describe the sound...Kaching, Kaching!

So here`s the deal, the Enbridge Northern pipeline, Enbridge who have had 1000 pipeline spills in the last decade, including a savage spill of 844,000 gallons of crude oil into the Kalamazoo river last year, Enbridge wants their pipeline to cross 1200 rivers and streams in BC on its way to Kitimat where giant Supertankers 4 times longer than a football field will have to travel the roughest, windiest coastline in the world, a coastline where hurricane force winds blow almost weekly!!!...Including this week!....

And for all of this risk, for tempting fate,  waiting for the inevitable spill, for a cost of $700 million dollars per year to B.C. drivers, just what is our benefit?

The University of Calgary's School of Public Policy issued an analysis Thursday concluding that with expanded pipeline access to U.S. and Asian markets, Canada's gross domestic product would jump $132 billion in 2010 dollars between 2016 and 2030, generating $27 billion in federal, provincial and municipal taxes and 649,000 person-years of employment.

But the study also shows that the overwhelming economic benefit of pipeline expansion to B.C. goes to Alberta.

The opening of the Asian market would trigger $10.5 billion in gains and 52,000 person-years of employment in Canada, but almost $10 billion of that wealth and 44,000 person-years go to Alberta.

Ontario would get $286 million and 4,000 person-years, while B.C. would enjoy $131 million and 2,000 person-years.


The study also "suggests" that B.C. would gain an additional $85 million in GDP and another 1,000 person-years due to increased exports to California if pipelines are built to the West Coast.
