Whether they are right, centre or left, they are always beholden to the entities that donate to their cause and even more so to the enablers that coerce these donations. They become the unelected force that operates like a lobbyist, but with more clout.

Meanwhile the MLAs are put in the position of serving two masters, the premier and the electorate. Seeing as the premier has the power to welcome some of the MLAs into the inner circle and banish the rest to the role of spectators, it is easy to see which master the MLAs will pay heed to. The electorate once again becomes nothing more than an afterthought.

As for a party's platform, it may as well be written in invisible ink. It is just a mere suggestion as to what the party will do if elected, not what they will really do. The platform is nothing more than a diatribe to entice the great unwashed, you and me folks, to vote for them.

I also believe that those that have aspirations of becoming the premier of BC should be elected at large, not just because they are the leader of the party that wins the most seats. Our current system elects our premier by proxy, not by the number of votes he or she gets from the electorate. Therefore our premier is chosen by one riding and a group of party members that chose him or her as their leader. Each party operates a little differently as to how they choose their leader, but it seems that most of them sell memberships to enable one to vote for their leader. Thus the person or his/her backers that can sell the most memberships will inevitably become the leader and possible premier. This doesn't sound like any kind of democratic process to me.

Maybe if a party came along with the stance that all their candidates would be allowed to vote as they believe their constituents would want them to vote on all legislative matters, I'd consider them a truly democratic party and worthy of support. I doubt that this will occur anytime soon, so I will continue to vote for any viable independent and if there is none running in my riding, spoil my ballot.

I will not compromise my ideals just to stroke someone's ego. Not now, not ever.

CamCrankypantsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2435367521078186829.post-68097488183682486092010-08-26T13:07:34.796-07:002010-08-26T13:07:34.796-07:00I am not yet prepared to promote any party until I...I am not yet prepared to promote any party until I see a platform...

I am however open to having a look...

A Governments job is to take care of health, education, children, to promote sustainable BC Business...

As for religion and dread,(The abortion issue)..

It muddies the water, it`s not governments responsibility, it`s a woman choice,pro-or con...
What drives their decision is up to the individual.

I will niether judge nor cast an opinion.

However, we need a political party of the people and I am not prepared to pre-judge..

I am attempting to contact Sal for more information...

You contributors will be the first to know.Grant Ghttp://powellriverpersuader.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2435367521078186829.post-32948025644411267822010-08-26T11:56:48.285-07:002010-08-26T11:56:48.285-07:00I am cautious about this party, they are conservat...I am cautious about this party, they are conservatives after all...and driven by Christian misconceptions. For example, both Vander Zalm and Delaney are practising Catholics, and Vetro is an Italian Canadian who has a shrine in his house, which says to me that he's fairly religious as well. Bet they're anti-choice for starters.....Please take some time to see what these people have to say before jumping out with your support. Also, funny how these four have been front and centre in the anti-HST fight. Doesn't anyone feel a tiny bit like they were used as part of these people's ambitions? It was that the Libs support lifting the moratorium on drillig for fossil fuels off our beutiful coast line. What do you make of that Grant. The darkest decade in BC History
Bruce J. Macdonald writes his rendition and perception on what he calls the NDP’s ineptitude in running this Province. I like many citizens of this Province will take the dark few days we had under the NDP to the darkest decade we just witnessed. The following is a short list of cuts and injustices placed on most if not all British Columbians. Tuition fees for Post Secondary education have tripled. Wait times for medical procedures continue to climb. The Provincial debt is 4 Billion higher now than when the previous Govt was in power. Homelessness has tripled. Housing prices have tripled leaving young families and seniors out of the market. Rental housing has surely doubled in price. Gas prices have doubled in part to gas and carbon tax. Addiction issues have tripled . Social programs have been cut . Allowed BC ferries to increase fuel surcharges 12 times in four years with only 15 days notice required. Citizens must now pay for eye exams between the ages of 19 and 64. Raw log exports continue at record levels putting British Columbians out of work. They have increased BC medical premiums for middle income families not covered through an employer. Charge us to visit BC parks to picnic or hike with no noticeable improvements as promised. They signed TILMA, the Trade Investment Labour Mobility Agreement with Alberta that gives developers or corporations the right to sue local Govt if they get in their way of doing business. Cut funding for special needs programs in our schools. Cut funding for special needs Adult programs. They have allowed forestry companies to develop lands within TFL’s Tree Farm licensed areas once preserved for logging and reforestation. They have sold us down the river with 119 private power licences and 545 applications for the same. They are in favour of lifting a moratorium that could see drilling for fossil fuels off our beautiful coast line. They supported the 2010 Olympic games ultimately costing the taxpayers of this province and country as much as 6-10 Billion dollars. This province now has the highest child poverty rate of any of the provinces in Canada. They passed legislation that allows employers to pay our hard working youth 6 dollars per hour as a training wage for 500 hours, this being similar to what was called the Macdonalds bill of the 1970’s (in the USA) paying youth less than anyone else in the workforce. They have neglected our highways to the point where the minimum standards of maintenance are not being met and in some cases unsafe for travel. They continue to support a poverty level minimum wage that cannot support a single working person or a family. They support fish farming that has proven catastrophic results on our oceans. They support fixed roof accommodation in our provincial parks. They tore up health care workers contracts and encourage private facilities. They support natural gas and oil tanker traffic in our local waters. They support a natural gas fired power plant on Texada Island that will increase greenhouse gas emissions. They support private Paramedic/ambulance service. They provide no services to intellectually challenged adults once they reach the age of nineteen. AND NOW THE HST !!! These are just some of reasons this Liberal govt has only 23% support in the latest polls Mr. Macdonald. Anthony B. ParkinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2435367521078186829.post-31356023305144689322010-08-25T12:04:05.750-07:002010-08-25T12:04:05.750-07:00Can you imagine a political party beholden to no o...Can you imagine a political party beholden to no one but those who voted for them?! It sounds like ...Thanks for the great news Grant.

It sounds like I may not have to plug my nose, (I'm sure I couldn't do that), and vote for useless Carole or horrors...not vote at all for the first time in my life.

I know you will keep us posted on your thoughts (wisdom) and hopefully we will very soon be able to collectively decide who is best to vote for and move on to fully support them and if necessary recall Ms. James in the fall so she doesn't split the vote too, if she doesn't just continue to self-destruct. She does not care about B.C., only herself. I'm sure Ms. James position on the HST is to keep it for the next five years and then get out of it??! That would be a transfer tax by then of nearly $10 billion dollars and countless failed small businesses and many people living in absolute despair and poverty. Good plan Carole....just gooooo.

We need new blood who have not been involved in any way with the B.C. Liberal mob and any of their decisions that destroyed this province.

I have had thoughts that Moe is the premier in waiting for when his ethnic group becomes the majority in 5 or so years and that Carole would fill in until then.
